"The Gloria Eve Performing Arts Foundation, Inc. is the only "minority" operated not-for-profit (501(c)(3)) corp. providing "minority" children, single parent households and lower income families in the Hempstead village community and surrounding areas with education to the cultural performing arts through class instruction that they may not normally be exposed to without this type of affordable program."

I was also in the audience and was able to appreciate the too oft unavailable opportunity for black children to be applauded and celebrated. Often times negative attention and feedback is readily accessible to our children and positive reinforcement overlooked. For many reasons but perhaps none more prevalent than socio-economic conditions that force us to focus on survival rendering involvement in the arts superfluous. But the performance these children pulled off last night is by no means superfluous, and in fact, directly attached to each one of their survival (ours as well, being parents). We need to see the hope that they exude; hope a lot of us have lost somewhere along the way in our every day struggle to make ends meet. But it is exponentially rewarding to the children who undoubtedly received a big taste of what it feels like to work diligently toward a goal, to cross the threshold of success all the while being spurred on by loved ones and welcomed upon arrival. Confidence, a key component to not only success but staying out of trouble is an attribute that is not assumed rather cultivated. This program accomplishes just that and I am proud to be a supporter.
